Happy Family – New Parent Dad and Mom,Husband Kissing on the Belly of His Wife with Love

Pregnant women can access Shared Antenatal Care and receive their antenatal care through their local GP as well as the maternity care teams at the public hospital. Women have the flexibility to book regular visits with their GP to assess their health and manage their ongoing health issues.

Additionally, through Shared Antenatal Care, women can receive timely referrals for ultrasound, pathology tests and specialist services from their GP, who will work with the hospital staff to share relevant medical information with one another, which allows for a more seamless experience for the woman.

In addition to the above mentioned services, antenatal care also includes discussions with your GP regarding family planning and the use of contraception, as well as any care you may need after childbirth, e.g. an IUD inserted. Many women find it beneficial to discuss with their GP their experience with the insertion of an IUD, recovery from childbirth and thoughts about a future pregnancy.

Shared Antenatal Care allows for a combination of your GP’s trusted care and the hospital’s clinical expertise to provide both mother and child short and long term care from their local GP and the medical team at the hospital after childbirth.
