Jammu-Srinagar Rail Link to Reduce Travel Time to Less Than 5 Hours

Travel between Jammu and Srinagar is soon to get a significant boost as the Indian Railways decides to extend the Vande Bharat Express to the Jammu Tawi station. This will significantly reduce the travel time to less than five hours, as opposed to the eight-hour long journey that currently takes place on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

The new train, which will run on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link, a highly important route, will come equipped with 20 modernized coaches. This will not only increase the capacity of the train but also provide greater comfort to passengers. Halt points at Katra, Reasi, and Banihal will also improve connectivity in the Jammu and Kashmir region.

Although the train was scheduled to begin operations on March 1, the date has been postponed due to some operational issues. However, the modernization of the infrastructure, including track modernization, signaling, and platforms, has already been completed.
